Covenant and Conversation
Our Lenten Journey 2009
Your opportunity: to use these forty days to turn back to God.
A possibility: don’t give anything up.
Rather, make a commitment:
- To be in church every Sunday AND every Wednesday.
- To take time every day to be before God. Suggest 15 minute minimum
- To do highs and lows – by yourself, or with your family.
Highs and Lows
Share (or write down) your high and low from the day
Read Scripture,
Pray -- first listening to God,
Then praying for each other, out loud.
No one gets a pass.
Everyone can be blessed.
Fifty years – fifty times people in this community of faith have made Lenten commitments. People have given up chocolate, fast food, drink, tv.... the list must be endless. Perhaps you have already chosen something you wish to ‘give up for Lent’ this year. Whether you have or haven’t, please consider taking on the commitment outlined above.
Lent is returning to God. In order to best do this, we must all turn to scripture, recommit ourselves to prayer, and gather with the community – even twice a week. I urge you to make this your priority.
If you do, there will be something much sweeter than chocolate to enjoy on Easter morn. You will have a renewed relationship with Jesus. Stronger faith, stronger connections with each other.... I promise it will be worth it,
With you, in Christ,
Pastor Julianne Smeck
